Darci's Review

The North Wind is an enchanting fantasy romance, reminiscent of classic contemporary fantasy works, with a beautiful twist on the effects of grief on the body and mind. Warwick’s characterisation, especially of the main characters Wren and Boreas, is deeply engaging and a refreshing contribution to the genre, while her immersive world-building adds to the captivating nature of the writing.

Wren comes from Edgewood, a village within a land of never-ending winter caused by the power of the North Wind, also known as the God of Winter and Boreas. This land is surrounded by the Deadlands, a vast snowy forest of duplicity inhabited by corrupted souls known as Dark walkers. All her life, Wren has cared for her twin Elora, providing food via hunting trips through the Deadlands and coin through selling her body. When the North Wind chooses Elora as his bride, Wren is adamant at saving her sister from a dreadful fate. So, she drugs her twin, and disguises herself with the North Wind none the wiser. When she first arrives at the North Wind’s castle, she devises a plan to save her realm from never-ending winter by killing him. But as she spends more time with Boreas, exploring his citadel and its people, she finds that there is more to him than meets the eye.

A stunning addition to the fantasy genre, which I devoured in one sitting! A must read for any fans of the ACOTAR series by Sarah J Maas and The Witch Collector by Charissa Weaks.

Publisher's Review

A lush and enchanting fantasy romance, inspired by Beauty and the Beast and the myth of Hades and Persephone.Beloved by readers on TikTok.

Wren of Edgewood is no stranger to suffering. With her parents gone, it is Wren’s responsibility to ensure she and her sister survive the harsh and endless winter, but if the legends are to be believed, their home may not be safe for much longer.

For three hundred years, the land surrounding Edgewood has been encased in ice as the Shade, a magical barrier that protects the townsfolk from the Deadlands beyond, weakens. Only one thing can stop the Shade’s fall: the blood of a mortal woman bound in wedlock to the North Wind, a dangerous immortal whose heart is said to be as frigid as the land he rules. And the time has come to choose his bride.

When the North Wind sets his eyes on Wren’s sister, Wren will do anything to save her – even if it means sacrificing herself in the process. But mortal or not, Wren won’t go down without a fight.
